Genesis 2:1-3 – “The Garden of Eden: Thus, the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made."

REGARDING GOD’S NEED TO REST:


Genesis 2:1-3 describes how God rested on the seventh day after finishing creation, establishing a model of rest for humans to follow. Although God doesn't require rest, this act emphasizes the value of stopping work to dedicate time to rest and reflect. The seventh day was blessed and made holy, underscoring its importance as a time for rest and worship (giving thanks). 

Genesis 2:2-3 states, "By the seventh day, God completed His work and rested from all His creations. He blessed and sanctified the seventh day because it was the day He ceased from His creative work." 


          God's rest was not due to fatigue, as He is omnipotent and never tires. Instead, His rest exemplifies the rhythm of work and rest that He established for creation.  God's ceasing from work on the seventh day established a pattern for humanity. It shows that rest is a vital part of life, not just a response when exhausted. 

          The idea of a day dedicated to rest and worship is expanded in later texts, such as the Ten Commandments, where the Sabbath is specified as a holy day. God's rest is not merely a past event but an ongoing call to find rest and peace through a relationship with Him.
